Viagra and impotence
September 25, 2005 by Bill
A person would have to be deaf…dumb and blind today to have missed the onslaught of Viagra hype. From the covers of major news magazines to national television. Viagra has been pouring into our living rooms, and bedrooms, as the cosmic fountain of youth. Phallic enthusiasm and confidence is back in the saddle again, riding high. Viagra, we have been told, transforms impotence to potent. “Impotence”, according to my dictionary, means “weak…feeble…infirm…” and is so defined.
The word bounced around inside my mind/brain and finally came to rest on the thought that there are other areas of impotence in society that are far more destructive to our national health and well being as a nation:
IMPOTENCE…in self restraint. The sexual abuse of children and spouses has almost reached a national crisis according to statistics. Teen age sex, with suffering, runs amok.
IMPOTENCE…in daily acts of kindness…gentleness…compassion and love.

Biblical scholars…defined
September 18, 2005 by Bill
The vast majority of ministers are NOT biblical scholars. I am not. I must depend on top scholars who have the highest academic credentials. I want to define biblical scholar. When I use that term, I am referring to those scholars who are looked upon as competent authorities in the departments of religion in our MAJOR universities of the world, or MAJOR theological seminaries. I am not talking about someone in some small denominational seminary somewhere who must repeat the party line to hold his job. And I am not talking about some “teacher” in some fundamentalist seminary with such low standards of academic requirements that they cannot even be accredited.
The vast majority of ministers are NOT biblical scholars. hey have rather been indoctrinated only with what their particular denomination wanted them to propagate and sustain.
About 99 percent of ministers, who are called “Dr.” are not really doctors at all, and have not earned a Doctors degree or a Ph.D. The doctorate is an honorary Doctorate of Divinity, presented usually by some small church college in their own denomination after a financial contribution from the church. Or else the degree can be bought from any number of small, non-accredited schools for 50 bucks. I have only known ONE minister with an EARNED Ph.D. in Religious Studies in my forty years of church associations. And to add to the sham is the fact that the vast majority of the resumes of fundamentalist ministers are so phony and false it is embarrassing. Do you remember that the Dean of Jerry Falwell’s College had a PhD from Oxford listed on his resume. Some reporter thought that anyone that stupid could not possibly have a degree from Oxford. He checked it out. Sure enough, Oxford never heard of him.

God type power
September 11, 2005 by Bill
How would you like to have been a bishop, or a priest, or even a deacon back in the first several hundred years after Jesus died, back when the Christian church was forming its political structure?
You would have had power, with a capital “P”…God type power. Whoever refused to “bow the neck” to the bishops, wrote Clement, Bishop of Rome, would get an ax…like POW!
The Bishop “stands in the place of God”, and you had to “obey the bishop as if he were God” wrote Bishop Ignatius of Antioch.
With power like that…with everyone bowing down and sending in their bucks…you would be living on the fat of the land. We used to call it “hog heaven” down in Texas.
How do you keep that kind of power, with all those peons bowing down to you and sending in their bucks? It’s easy. You just have to convince them that only you can get them into some place called “heaven”, reminding them constantly of the alternative, some place called “hell”. This practice is still in use today in many Christian churches.
